Diabetes and whole/ holistic medicine research

  Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex metabolic lifestyle disorder characterized by persistent high blood glucose  levels and excretion of excess glucose through urine, because of abnormal utilization of products from digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats due to faulty insulin production, insulin action, or both.

T2DM, a noncommunicable chronic disease, is caused by an interplay of several genetic and environment factors which tend to increase chances of insulin resistance, β cell dysfunction and obesity.

 In three of the five clinical trials, significant improvements in blood glucose status and body fat percentages were observed in holistic care intervention groups, compared with biomedicine control groups which demonstrated improvements in only a few parameters. Apart from significant improvements in blood glucose control and body weight, high rates of partial and complete reversal of T2DM parameters were observed in the remaining two clinical trials.

That is, 50% of the patients achieved normal blood glucose levels while 41% of the patients achieved complete reversal of T2DM after 12 weeks and stopped antidiabetic medication [51], and 80% of the patients achieving partial reversal thus delaying the need for medication, as well as 10% of the patients achieving complete reversal.
